Georgia’s most fun Halloween events
It’s almost September 27th, 2024, and at Jellystone Park™ West Georgia, that means it’s time for Halloween! This year, we’ll celebrate the holiday for five straight weekends to build up the excitement and make it the best Halloween you’ve ever had. You can show up for camping with your family and enjoy every Halloween activity you love.
Have a hauntingly good Halloween at Jellystone Park™ West Georgia
Halloween is an ancient Celtic festival (originally called Samhain) celebrated at the end of harvest seasons and the start of winter. The Celts believed that the boundary between the living and the dead was thinnest during Samhain, and as such, spirits could cross over to the land of the living. To protect themselves from the roaming spirits, they lit huge bonfires and wore unique costumes made of animal heads and skins to blend into the supernatural landscape they believed enveloped them.
These age-old traditions have evolved into the playful, community-focused festivities we enjoy today. And since Halloween began as an outdoor festival, the best way to celebrate it in 2024 is in the great outdoors.
You can plan an unforgettable camping weekend at Jellystone Park™ West Georgia. We’ve got all the traditional Halloween fun, like pumpkin carving and costume contests, but with a cool camping twist!
Enjoy a weekend packed with fun Halloween activities
Here are some of the activities that await at Jellystone Park™ West Georgia this Halloween:
The haunted hallway
Dare to creep through our Haunted Hallway and scream at ghostly ghouls lurking in every corner? Don’t worry, our spirits are more giggle-inducing than bone-chilling, perfect for little monsters who want just a dash of fright with their fun.
Campsite & cabin decorating contest
Get into the spirit by transforming your campsite or cabin! Decorating spaces in Samhain would ward off unwanted spirits, but today, it’s about friendly competition and showing off your Halloween flair. Go all out, and you might win some fantastic prizes!
Costumes contests
The tradition of wearing costumes dates back to the Celts, who dressed in animal skins to disguise themselves from wandering spirits. Now, it’s all about fun and creativity, with prizes for the best-dressed ghouls and goblins!
Trick-or-treating
This comes from the ancient souling where the Celts would go door-to-door for treats in exchange for prayers. With time, trick-or-treating has become the hallmark of Halloween – it simply wouldn’t be a celebration if we’re not treating all of our pint-sized monsters to a sugar rush!
Pumpkin carving
Carving pumpkins is a fun nod to the old Irish tradition of carving turnips to ward off evil spirits. But in 2024, you can show off your carving skills and give your campsite a spooky glow that would make even the Celts proud.
Halloween Parade
Our Halloween Parade is a modern twist on ancient Celtic processions. Back then, villagers would parade to the outskirts of town to lead the spirits away. Our parade is less about exorcism and more about excitement! It’s your chance to show off those costumes, mingle with fellow monsters, and be part of a lively community event. Who knows? You might even spot Yogi Bear in a costume of his own!
Halloween games, chuckin’, and slime!
We have more Halloween games to play at Jellystone Park™ West Georgia. From Halloween Bingo to Pumpkin Chuckin’ and making gooey slime, these games bring a lighthearted twist to Halloween’s history. While our ancestors played divination games on Samhain to peer into the future, we play sugar-fueled shenanigans to create memories that’ll last all year!
Ready to turn your Halloween up to eleven? Book your stay at Jellystone Park™ West Georgia now! All these great ghoulish activities are free for park guests. Come for the family camping, stay for the screaming (of delight, of course!) at Jellystone Park™ West Georgia today.
